How We Ease Into Fall

As fashion’s most anticipated season is upon us, I figured we’d throw a look out there for those days that aren’t as crisp and chilly as November 31st will be. (Don’t look at your calendar.) This is a look that don’t require much layering. No scarf, hat, or gloves, but itstill speaks to the season in color and texture.

This is one of my favorite looks. Since most of the attention will be on the pants, your shirt and tie definitely don’t have to make a bunch of noise. Tone those down with some basics and you won’t do what people in the fashion industry call “peacocking“.

Slip into fall

This look is made possible by these rust pants. Colors like orange, brown, and green look great in the fall. These colors have many different hues that you can play with. Darker oranges, deeper greens, all types of browns….have fun with it!

Your accessories will be an important addition to your look as you navigate your way through these autumn months. Notice how the green nato strap matches the little pieces of green in the pocket square (and socks). These are the little details that complete an outfit. This look would not capture eyes as quickly if I had on a plain brown watch, black socks, and no pocket square.

One accessory that I’m starting to switch up with my looks is my phone case. I got wind of this site They have some of the dopest cases I’ve ever seen. This particular one is made out of real wood (smells like Christmas) and goes great with the colors that fall has to offer. Remember, it’s all in the details. These “minor” details will be the reason you get that second look from the hottie at the food truck at lunch.

Hey, Ronald! I’m impressed at your gift of guessing my waist. Lol There are many looks that both slim and husky guys can pull off. The biggest difference comes in when we talk tailoring and accentuating different parts of the body. If I were a 38 waist guy pulling off this look, I’d keep the jacket buttoned to create a slimmer silhouette. And depending on my neck, I would switch up the collar type and tie knot. I’ll definitely be posting entries and pics of heavier guys to give better guidelines on how to find your own style point. Stay tuned.

Murph! No need to worry, there are plenty of places that accomodate a man of your stature. Most American brands such as J. Crew, Canvas (Lands’ End), and Banana Republic make sure taller guys aren’t left shopping at Big & Tall specialty stores that are usually on the losing in of the style battle. When you go to these stores, find whatever it is that you like, even if it’s not in your size. Try the sizes that are closest to yours. Head to the register with it your items and tell them you want it in your size. They will go online and do the ordering for you and it will be shipped to you. It’s the best way to get what you want without praying and crossing your fingers for 5-7 business days. And your other option is to take me on a shopping mission with you. Boom.

Like the look son.if you reach back into the styles of the 70s ,we wore loud colors. Are you telling me that the whole color thing is making a return??

Thank you, good sir! Like they say, “there’s nothing new under the sun”. Not only are colors back, but bigger patterns in blazers have made a return as well as the classic double breasted blazer. I’m a big fan of throwing on some colorful pants because they work well with your plain, understated blazers and tops. It really will set you apart from the pack.

Certain FASHION trends of years past should never make their way back (ie. platform shoes) but the STYLE that was exemplified by guys like Marvin Gaye, Clyde Frazier, and The Gray men before me will always be admired and mimicked.

What style or cut of jeans would you recommend wearing with some nice casual shoes and a button down shirt?

Hey, Miller. Depending on your size, I’d go with either a slim straight cut which is tapered at the thigh and seat but straightens out without tapering down the leg (ie. Levi’s 514) or if you’re slimmer, there’s the slim cut that taper at the seat all the way down the leg (Levi’s 513). The point is to have your jeans that you want to dress up be slimmer so they accentuate your physique but not show what you’re made of. In other words, NO SKINNY JEANS!!!
